Kanpur, my hometown and my birthplace is a major industrial city located in Uttar Pradesh. It became one of the most important commercial and military stations in British India. It is also known as the financial capital of Uttar Pradesh and is also the ninth-largest urban economy in India.In 1207, Raja Kanh Deo of the Kanhpuriya clan of Rajputs established the city of ‘Kanhiyapur’ and made it his capital. The British ruler Hobson Johnson found the word difficult to pronounce and he changed it to ‘Cawnpore’. Later it came close to its name as ‘Kanpur’.It was one of the prominent centres in the first War of Independence, that is, the revolt of 1857. This was the era in which Kanpur got some importance and became momentous.A lot of modernization has taken place in the city. After the onset of industrialization, Kanpur became one of the most important centres of leather goods manufacturing units. J.K. Jute Mills, Lal Imli Textiles, J.P. Fertilizers, LML, Lohia Star Linger, RSPL, Kothari group of industries etc. are some of the major industries which brought Kanpur to a prominent position in the stage of Indian Industrial sector. This city has seen such a drastic transformation from a simple village of ‘Kanhiyapur’ to an industrial hub which plays a major role in the national economy.
